Ok i know this isnt sports related but its waaaaaaaaay more important.....On tuesday, Nov.4 2008, not only was history made, but a dream was realized and was manifested into reality. Im sure you all know by now that Barack Obama was elected president on tuesday...if not, either you havent been watching television at all for the past 5 days( including tuesday), you haven't read any newspapers, magazines or been on the internet for 5 days , u havent listened to the radio at all ,or in other words, you've been living under a rock for almost a week....so what exactly does this men??? Barack Obama being elected president that is.....well, to me it means change...many types of change i might add....a change in the way this country will be ran economically and socially.....a change in people's views regarding race...a change in education and equality.....but most importantly, it means change in the minds of our youth....his victory instills the idea that no matter what ethnicity you are or where you come from with hardwork, drive, and perserverance anything is possible...even becoming president of a country....it gives hope to the people who will eventually decide the fate of this country.....now im not sayin that Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream has been COMPLETELY attained, but with Barack as the new president, it wont be long before it will be......and that my friends, is a dream fulfilled.

Boxing is my favorite sport and basketball is one of my least favorite sports however I do watch the championships and am starting to get more into the game.
But I want to comment or blog about the president-elect. Everyone is talking about "change" and what type of administration Mr. Obama is going to have and the policies that he will attempt to implement. Sure, his election to the presidency has given many young people hope, particularly Black people that your goals and dreams can be attained, particularly since a Black man has made it to the White House. I am pessimistic but hopeful that a lot of legislation will be passed under his administration that previously would probably have had no consideration at all, however we have to remember that the president is limited in his ability and powers and that Congress still exist and approval from the House and Senate is still required, the political process is very strange and cut throat, many are selfish and many do follow the wants of their constituents, usually so they can get re-elected and this is regardless if certain legislation is good for their communities.
Many Black people expect that Obama is somehow going to make life uniquely different or better for the Black community and I beg to differ. Washington politicians are overwhelmingly white and they are still the majority so will be interesting to see, as it pertains to the state of Black america how we will benefit from his presidency. I am sure their will be some benefits but not the type that many Black Americans are expecting. Undoubtely, he has inspired a great deal of our youth and the dreams of many seem more attainable with his election to office.
Check out my blog on Change. Very good thought on your blog.
i understand and agree with your comments but i do think he will bring about change for not only the Black America, but for white america as well....had african americans been the only people who voted for him on election day, he wouldnt have been elected president which means ALOT of whites believed in his ideas for change...thats the beauty of barack obama and thats what sets him apart from the other non-successful blacks who tried to run for some type of political position..his mind isnt focused on just black people..he sees the big picture...people of all ethnic backgrounds in this country realize that which leads me to believe that he will eventually bring about change.
November 4th was indeed a historic moment. I would put my money that every household that was able to catch the election on television had there eye glued to Obama. Whether a McCain fan or an Obama fan, this will go down in history. Everyone will know where they were when he clinched the presidency. Sort of like the September 11th attacks, Barack Obama is a new icon in 21st Century American history. The flip side of the deal, he now must perform and carry out his duties as the Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful nation on the planet Earth. How will he respond to the existing wars in the middle east? How will he respond to the ongoing threat of global climate change? Many issues were constantly "stumped" throughout the campaign trail, but now is the actual time to get it done. I hope his administration does an extraordinary job in their first term. I hope American prevails and we seek peace in the middle east. The position we're in right now, as a country, is a dangerous one. We're at a fork in the road and we can eventually turn into a super-power "empire" type nation. We would then be hated by the rest of the world and would probably justify a dictatorship. Some have commented on Obama being similar to Hitler because of his excellent public speaking skills. One of the reasons being that Adolf was elected in a Democratic Germany just like Obama. I'm anxious to see how things turn out.
Obama's ideas and plans for change include all of those problems that you described. Now the change will not be immediate, but there WILL be a change. He even said during one of the presidential debates that it will take around ten years to properly solve the problem of global warming and climate change. He also said he wants to sit down with the president of Afghanistan and Iraq and try and figure out a way to stop the war. I know saying something and doing something are two different things, but obviously someone believes he'll do what he says he's going to do because he was elected president.
